Email or Phone as login...

Just wondering if using phone # is a good idea as an alternate to email as a login? If the site is going to be utilized internationally then email is a better standard as phone numbers have different formats outside north america. Not sure if this will have any impact to anything or not but food for thought?

If the user enters at least 10 digits of their phone number (the required amount), then a partial match is performed.

Not everyone in the world has email, or an immediate way to check email, and not everyone bothers to check it (like mom ;), especially many elderly people). There is one thing however, I should put a check box to filter for those with emails only.

FYI: The phone # is stored as digits only, so the match is easier.

Ok good to know.. still, international #'s are different number of digits... varies from country to country.. not sure if that could impact anything in your searches, database records, etc..

Nope, wouldn't affect anything. Those users would just have to remember the exact same numbers they put in - though I many change this to require only the last 10 numbers.
